New 15 meter Yagi at K5TR

Comments from George K5TR:

This summer I was not sure I could get fired up to do a single op all
band effort in this contest so I put together a small multi-single.
As it turned out the conditions were quite decent on the bands and I
kind of missed not doing SOAB. But, in the end this was quite a bit
of fun and I even got to sleep a few hours. WM5R and N5TR came over
and put in a lot of radio time. N5TR had not been on the radio since
the W1AW/5 effort here in 2002 and that was the first time he had been
on the radio since several years before. He got of on the job
training in software and everything else.

A month ago I built and put up a new 15 meter yagi. It is 6 elements
on a 36' boom and it replaced a Cushcraft 4 element yagi. Other than
the California QSO party this was really it's first test on the band
and it passed. Everyone agreed it works very well and is a keeper.

The bands were quite good - 80 meters was a big surprise. Lots EU and
it was quiet enough on both ends for us to do much better than normal.
The long path on 40 meters was good and we were very pleased with our
mult totals on all the bands.

The only real problem here was that one of the amps was not working
well or at all on some bands so at times we were limited to 100 watts
on some bands or we had to shuffle the bands between the stations.
Mainly this was a problem on 10 and 15 meters but mostly we were able
to work around it - good thing that 10 meters was in such poor shape
it would have hurt us more than it did.

Thanks for all the contacts.
