N5XU participated in the ARRL January VHF Sweepstakes conducted from 1900 UTC 20 January to 0400 UTC 22 January 2000. We operated in the limited multioperator class, with W5JLP, KB5LBN, and WM5R operating. We were active on 50 MHz, 144 MHz, 222 MHz, and 432 MHz. We would have been active on 1296 MHz had the T/R relay for the transverter not blown up a few days before the contest.
Band conditions were horrible. It wasn't until nearly the end of the contest that we were even able to work outside of the state of Texas! For most of Saturday, our multiplier total on 222 MHz exceeded our multiplier total on 50 MHz.
Activity from Houston and Austin both seemed normal, San Antonio activity improved a lot, but activity from the DFW area is really down from a few years ago.
